The Texas City Lady Stings got off to a fast start and never looked back, running away with a win over Galena Park on Friday at Stingaree Stadium.

Lady Stings head coach Lindsay Best said that the team has been working hard to improve to outcome of their games in the second round of district play.

“Instead of focusing solely on winning, we have been trying to capitalize on the opportunities we create and score more,” Best said. “We know that in order to compete with (first-place) Elkins, we need to see improvement with every game, and the girls are doing just that.”

Within the first five minutes, Ashleigh Rivas delivered the first goal from the left corner of the field. Rivas and Karissa Victoria put together a quick wall pass which sent Rivas all the way outside nearby the corner flag. It looked as if she intended to cross the ball, but the ball sailed in the back of the net from 25 yards out.

The scoring didn't stop there, as the girls continued to find the back of the net. Other goal scorers included Victoria (hat trick) and Amanda Valdez (two goals).

Assists came from Victoria, Angy Orea, Skylar Hernandez and Valdez . The shutout was shared by goalkeepers Makenna Solina and Gabby Bjerke.
