High Island 53, Leverett’s Chapel, 6

High Island quarterback Derek DeMoss tossed six touchdown passes Saturday and the Cardinals defense controlled the other side of the ball in a blowout 53-6 six-man victory over Leverett’s Chapel (6-3) on homecoming night.

The game was stopped midway through the fourth quarter via the 45-point mercy rule.

The win clinched a playoff berth for the Cardinals (7-2), who will face Tioga in the opening round of the postseason with the date, time and location of the contest still to be determined.

Kole Rodriguez, Kade Meyers and Milo Malinchalk each caught two touchdown passes from DeMoss, and Nate Jackson had two touchdown runs.

High Island gave up a score early and led 13-6 at halftime before shutting out the Lions the rest of the way and forcing five turnovers.
