In a recent Reel Report it was mentioned that we are in that time of year when big “wall hanger” trout are caught and that many anglers will catch that once in a lifetime fish that goes to the taxidermist for mounting.
A reader sent the following note, and I must say that I agree with his comments and, in fact, for my last six fish mounts, this is exactly the way I handled it. Unfortunately, my big trout, just over 8 pounds, was a skin mount. That occurred in the late 1980s and, as the reader pointed out, it is beginning to show wear from all of the years hanging on the wall. His note is as follows:
