It’s early morning, the pinks and purples shimmer against puffy clouds as the sun begins its climb across the Texas sky.

Sitting in the bath-water warm Gulf atop my surfboard, I spot pelicans, a few gulls, a tern and one dolphin that occasionally breaches the surface, rolling slowly near the Pleasure Pier’s T-head pilings.
