By mid-July, many runners are beginning to feel the heat. While the Texas heat and humidity may not be the most pleasant running environment, it doesn’t have to be dangerous. Knowing how to prevent, spot and treat heat-related conditions keeps runners safe when temperatures soar.

Heat-related illnesses can strike even the fittest runners, and the hotter the temperature, the higher the risk. High humidity compounds the dangers of high temperatures because it makes it harder for sweat to perform its cooling function.
