Clear Springs vs. Pearland bi-district playoff

Clear Springs quarterback William McBride dives under Pearland’s Michael Moore on an 8-yard keeper during the first quarter of a bi-district playoff game on Friday night Nov. 11, 2016 at Challenger Columbia Stadium in League City. The Chargers lost to the Oilers 20-17 to end their season.

Hitchcock head coach Craig Smith kept a Texas map in a trophy case outside his office. Eight labels dotted the map, marking the cities that were home to the eight regional finalists in last year’s Class 3A state football playoffs.

Smith left the map out this season to serve as a reminder of how close the Bulldogs came to playing for a state championship a year ago. It also was the motive behind the team’s “13 days better” motto.
