Houston Cougars vs. UCF Knights

A fan holds up a sign in support of keeping Houston Cougars head coach Tom Herman next season during the second quarter against the UCF Knights on Saturday afternoon Oct. 29, 2016 at TDECU Stadium in Houston. The Cougars came from behind to defeat Knights 31-24.

Tom Herman offered a thoughtful response when asked about his players’ emotions days after the then-sixth-ranked Houston Cougars suffered their first loss of the season at Navy.

“The wins are exhilarating and the losses are crushing,” he said. “It doesn’t matter what you’re ranked or what’s on the line or who you are, if you’ve got any competitiveness about you, you’ve only got 12 (games), and when you lose one, it hurts really bad.”

To keep from becoming a stepping stone again, UH needs to hire a competent coach who is already fed up with the P5 schools. Charlie Strong comes to mind.
