The average time it takes a PGA Tour professional to complete a backswing is about 0.75 seconds, while the downswing (through-swing) takes about 0.25 seconds. Most any recreational golfer with a handicap higher than 10 will readily confess to being able to do the whole thing all too often in under half a second. In my regular group, that’s known as a “Zorro.”
Retired Pasadena P.D. Assistant Chief Jack Fry claims to have coined the term, and each time someone does a “Zorro,” he attempts to collect from them $5. No one pays.
