Pictured, from left are Clear Creek golfers Jacob Salazar, Andrew Pierson, Hunter Drotts, Trey Ponce and Josh Majewski. The team finished second at the recent Kingwood Invitational, with Drotts posting a 73-73 scorecard for top individual honors.

Golf courses are getting longer. Golfers are hitting the ball farther than ever before. Golf balls are getting longer-and smarter. Golf clubs are becoming engineering works of art. Longer, farther, higher, faster-and smarter. And my cardiologist says that if I follow a certain regimen, I will swing the golf club better. Where to begin?

I’ll start with Jack Nicklaus, whose impact on the game is immeasurable, and who, at age 80, still makes a mighty swipe at the ball only to furrow his brow at most shots as they travel modest distances.
