Bob Hamilton won the 1944 PGA Championship. No disrespect to Hamilton (not a Broadway show), but few people are aware of that accomplishment — and fewer yet likely care. It’s so day-before-the last-century.
That he shot his age (59) in 1975, while also impressive, might garner only a shrug: hey, he was a professional. At 67 years old, the legendary Sam Snead shot a 67 in the Quad Cities Open; the next day, the Slammer shot 66. Again, something to talk about; but then, he was a pro and an elite one at that.
