Galveston Country Club will host the Texas Golf Association South Amateur Championship from Friday to Sunday. In a statement announcing the tournament, Galveston Country Club President Bob Senter recalled the Galveston Country Club was the first private country club chartered in the state of Texas, in the year 1898.

“This prestigious event will bring 84 of the best amateurs in South Texas competing for the coveted title,” Senter said. “The Galveston Country Club, the first private country club chartered in the State of Texas in 1898, is proud to host the Texas Golf Association Southern Amateur. We look forward to some of the finest amateurs in the state competing for this coveted prize at our beautiful and challenging golf course.
