Two weeks ago, this column took the stance that this year’s Super Bowl is not interesting at all. It still isn’t, but I do have some thoughts on which team will win the big game.

To paraphrase a line from the movie “The Dark Knight,” the New England Patriots are the Super Bowl champion that the NFL deserves, but not the one it needs.

As a senior citizen and a forever Patriots' fan, I am amused that James LaCombe belittles success and the rewards of experience. It must be just too tempting to join the youth movement and bemoan a team that shows the American concept of work hard and you win.
I will forgive James for his attitude because when I was young, I felt the same way about that Dallas team, the Cowboys. They had a grownup for a coach and they just kept winning. How unfair!

"New England was building a dynasty in the 2000s when the team was suddenly accused of building an espionage program. The Pats were caught videotaping signals at the New York Jets' home opener in 2007 (a game New England won 38-14). The league eventually determined that the team illegally videotaped opponents from 2002 to 2007.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fined the team $250,000 for that incident, and stripped New England of a first-round draft choice. Coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000, the largest financial penalty against a coach ever."

Nobody likes a proven cheater(s) sorta 'deflates' the spirit of the games.....
