Finally a little feel of some cool weather. It will not last long, as the wind shifts back to the south Sunday. We could drop down to the mid-50s by early morning, but quickly warming to the mid-70s in the afternoon. Sunday should be a good day to fish Galveston Bay.

I have prepared for Tropical Storm Nicholas and plan to stay on the island. Of course, these systems have a way of changing, so I will continue to monitor the progression. We will see rain and elevated tides. If you have a boat at a marina, take caution to the rise in water levels.

It was a great start to the Labor Day weekend — weather and winds were perfect. There were plenty of folks who took advantage of the slick, calm bay. I saw many anglers fishing the middle of Galveston Bay.

I penned this column early Sunday morning. A prior obligation this afternoon is the reason. I will catch up with the fishing reports Monday. I want to touch on two subject matters in this column.
