We will remember President George H.W. Bush as dignified, respectful, decent, honest, humble, compromising, honorable, gracious, forgiving, compassionate, compromising and presidential in his emblem of conduct.

Everything our present office holder is not.

Another Trump hater places a Letter to the Editor.
But don't worry.
With time even George Thomas Parsons III might learn not to hate.

Randolph Groninger

Indeed, hate is a heavy load to tote and corrodes the hater.

Bailey Jones

"dignified, respectful, decent, honest, humble, compromising, honorable, gracious, forgiving, compassionate, compromising and presidential" - I think you nailed it. We're not "Trump haters", we just mourn a kinder, gentler America.

Kelly Naschke

Blah blah blah.....All I do is hate on Trump....but “we’re not Trump haters”. The hate that oozes out of you people is comical. Find some love in your life....get a hobby....buy a pet...,.but good lord....get over it and release the HATE.

Paul Hyatt

Until they get a ruthless ruler again into the WH there hate will never stop. They hate because the Hildabeast could not be and thankfully will never be elected as President....

Carlos Ponce

One can talk nice about GHW Bush without demonizing the current president. Those are the "Trump haters". Every President is different. Some decent men made lousy presidents.

George Caros

Now we have nether

Carlos Ponce

nether - lying near or below the surface.
Ok, George Caros. That's nice.

Gary Miller

GHW Bush was all that and a member of the DC swamp.

Jim Forsythe

When a party starts calling members out, they tend to go elsewhere.
Each Republican that is unwelcome may decide to change parties to become a Democrat or Independent.
This is a party that less than 25% of voters belong to.
At this time over 40% of the voters are Independents. Without Independents a person can not win a Presidential race..

Paul Hyatt

Me a democrat? Not on your life as democrats stand for things I can not stand for ever again.... Liberalism is not my forte nor will it ever be again....

Jarvis Buckley

I think 41 was a great man & good president.
I think 45 is a good man & a great president.
I believe socialist are ruining our country.

Jim Forsythe

George H.W. Bush was a very good man. When someone passes away, it makes no difference what job they held or how much money they had, but did they live life with honor. He did that and also was a good president.
Jarvis, many of the USA programs we use now came from socialist roots.
Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy were not socialists. But the nation has benefited from their borrowing of socialist and social democratic ideas. Calling someone a socialist is a easy way of painting them a shade of red without all the facts that they are a socialist or just using some socialist ideas .
Jarvis , who do you think are the socialist ruining our country? I do not remember the 50's. but Joseph McCarthy was looking for Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers that we did not have, At lease to the extent he envisioned.
I think the same applies to today.

Carlos Ponce

Franklin Roosevelt was not a socialist???? I beg to differ and so did many politicians of his day, Democrat and Republican.
"FDR was called a socialist and a communist." — Barack Obama said on Monday, September 21, 2009 in interview on "Late Night with David Letterman"
https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/sep/22/barack-obama/obama-roosevelt-socialist-communist/

Jim Forsythe

Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy were not socialists

Obama said. "FDR was called a socialist and a communist." Not that he was one.
Obama has mentioned the Roosevelt comparison several times recently, including during an interview on Late Night with David Letterman on Sept. 21, 2009.
"What's happened is that whenever a president tries to bring about significant changes, particularly during times of economic unease, then there is a certain segment of the population that gets very riled up," Obama said. "FDR was called a socialist and a communist."
Indeed, Roosevelt was called a socialist or a communist many times. Most of that criticism came in the 1930s, when he was enacting programs intended to pull the country out of the Great Depression.

Carlos Ponce

Looking back at FDR's policies - he was a socialist.

Jim Forsythe

FDR became president at a time that would have tried any president. He was able to put in place programs that he hoped would help get us out of the ever increasing problems we had.He lead by starting many programs and if he had not done so, many more people would have lost everything.
The following are 10 of the programs he started.
Some are still in place and helping us now.
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
Civil Works Administration (CWA)
Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
Federal Security Agency (FSA)
Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC)
National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)
Public Works Administration (PWA)
Social Security Act (SSA)
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)
Works Progress Administration (WPA)
You can argue which of his programs were Socialist, but if you were president at that time would you have done what he did ?Or continue of the path Hoover was on?

Americans demanding immediate action .
"The American people were generally extremely dissatisfied with the crumbling economy, mass unemployment, declining wages and profits and especially Herbert Hoover's policies such as the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act and the Revenue Act of 1932. Roosevelt entered office with enormous political capital. Americans of all political persuasions were demanding immediate action and Roosevelt responded with a remarkable series of new programs in the "first hundred days" of the administration, in which he met with Congress for 100 days. "
"The economic crisis of the 1930s was more severe in the United States than in any other large society except Germany. It presented American radicals with their greatest opportunity to build a third party since World War I, but the constitutional system and the brilliant way in which Franklin Delano Roosevelt co-opted the left prevented this. The Socialist and Communist Parties saw their support drop precipitously in the 1940 elections. America emerged from the Great Depression as the most antistatist country in the world."

Carlos Ponce

Yes, he's a Socialist.

Paul Hyatt

Isn't it funny and ironic that the left leaning democrats hated G.H.W. Bush when he was President and now that he has died most not all rave about him.... As for McCarthyism I would say that the democrats have brought him back alive and well and once January starts Pelosi and her ilk will bring out the claws so that they can impeach a man that was legally elected....

Jim Forsythe

Just like any President ,G.H.W. Bush made mistakes but that did not make him a bad President. We have had some Presidents that were better than some, but very few bad Presidents. Some think that it would be better if Democrats bad mouthed a President that just passed away.

The history of Presidents that have been impeached by the House of Representatives,
Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 were both legally elected. No President has been impeached for being legally elected. No President has ever been convicted by the Senate, which is the way it should be, making it very hard to remove a President.

The history of trying to impeach Trump, makes his impeachment doubtful.
Twice over the past two years since Trump was elected, Democrats have tried to force votes on impeachment proceedings, winning a high-water mark of more than 60 supporters, far from the 218 needed.
Pelosi knows that even if a President impeached, removal will not happen. Unless things change , she most likely not call for impeachment.
The California lawmaker calls impeachment a "divisive activity" that needs to be approached with bipartisanship. "If the case is there, then that should be self-evident to Democrats and Republicans," she said.
"You have to be very reluctant to do an impeachment," Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said recently on ABC. Nadler, who served on the committee during President Bill Clinton's impeachment, cited "the trauma of an impeachment process."

Carlos Ponce

Jim posts, "The history of trying to impeach Trump, makes his impeachment doubtful."
True.

Doug Sivyer

Well stated Jim

Jim Forsythe

Thanks , Doug.

Robert Braeking

Sometimes 'kinder and gentler' gets overwhelmed by ruthless and intolerant. It is time to reject the socialist agenda and fight back against the group-think, deep state left. Trump is just the man to do it.

Jarvis Buckley

Most Democrats in House & Senate are hiding behind the old Democrat
Platform when in fact they are
true socialist. In my opinion.
You are much more knowledgeable
than me regarding the Democrat party.

Steve Fouga

Carlos opines: "Looking back at FDR's policies - he was a socialist."

If true, then that means it must be okay, and even good, to be a socialist. FDR is ranked by knowledgeable sources as among our very greatest presidents. So I guess socialism must be okay. Or maybe we need to redefine what socialism is.

Carlos Ponce

The US Supreme court overturned many of his programs. That's why FDR wanted to expand SCOTUS by 6 more justices with like minded Socialist ideas to 15 justices. It did not happen. You'd have to rewrite the Constitution or convince SCOTUS as Obama did to get Obamacare through the courts.

Jim Forsythe

The Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937 was found unconstitutional, not Socialist If every president that has had a ruling that was found unconstitutional was Socialist, we would have had a lot of Socialist presidents, including Trump.
What did the president want.
The central provision of the bill would have granted the President power to appoint an additional Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court, up to a maximum of six, for every member of the court over the age of 70 years and 6 months.
The chance of the bill passing was almost zero.
In the Judiciary Act of 1869 Congress had established that the United States Supreme Court would consist of the Chief Justice and eight associate justices
Since the U.S. Constitution does not define the size of the Supreme Court, Roosevelt pointed out that it was within the power of the Congress to change it.
The legislation was viewed by members of both parties as an attempt to stack the court, and was opposed by many Democrats, including Vice President John Nance Garner.

Carlos Ponce

They were unconstitutional but also socialist in nature.

domenico nuckols

Trump is going to jail simple.

Carlos Ponce

No he's not unless it's to visit.[beam]

Such malarkey the liberal socialist under the guise of the Democrat party spew daily. Under local newspaper forums , on radio & main stream media. These poor folks , wake up stressed & go to bed stressed. President Trump will be a two term President. Our Country will be a greater Country because of his service . Thank you Mr. President.
