The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce has learned a number of people believe they cannot vote in the elections for a number of reasons. They believe that since they are a “registered Democrat” or a “registered Republican,” or they no longer have voter registration cards, they cannot vote. This is not true. All you need is a picture ID, such as your driver’s license, to vote.

Texas has “open” primaries and there are no registered Republicans or Democrats. Everyone in Texas is free to vote for the person of his choosing in all elections; however, you must choose R(epublican) or D(emocrat) and vote in only one primary.

I have the distinct honor of serving as the 2018 Chair of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and know firsthand how important these positions are to our city, region and state. Do your research and find out who will best serve our diverse industries and our people.

Do not be left out of the political process. Vote and make your voice heard. This is your chance to make a difference in our region.

Early voting will continue through March 2 and Election Day is March 6. Yes, it is true, every election is determined by those who show up and vote.

Note! Most important is the Photo ID. Democrats think some percentage of their voters aren't smart enough to get a free photo ID. I think being that dumb should be a valid reason for them to not vote.
