We have known Johnny Smecca for many, many years and have watched him grow from an outstanding son of two of the most wonderful Italians ever to grace this island, to a devoted husband, an outstanding father, and without a doubt a very successful businessman.

He has donated his time, money and pizzas to many organizations, including the Galveston Independent School District’s functions and fundraisers. His career is filled with remarkable accomplishments and his dedication to the city, the Galveston schools and their students and athletes — our future leaders — is truly amazing.

Please cast your vote in this upcoming school board election on Nov. 7 for Johnny Smecca. Your vote for Johnny would be a vote of confidence in an individual who will work untiringly to ensure a sound future for the Galveston Independent School District — the teachers and staff and most importantly — for our children.

Really? Integrity is important. I wrote a check to this man for $4,000 in good faith for rental deposits before IKE. The storm prevented the use of his properties and he refused to return the money. When asked why I was told that he just didnt want to and to sue him for it. I never saw a dime. Is this really the type of person you want in charge of your kids schools?
