Red flags. Why don’t we always heed to the warning signs? The mortgage crisis of the 2000s; The Great Depression of 1929; the 1981 Recession; and in 2017-18 the three candidates that felt it was necessary to run against a 20-year career politician, Ken Clark.

Each has warning signs. Ken Clark: a twist of words, a sleight of hand. Ken Clark, a savvy politician mentored by Steve Stockman, the former congressman indicted on corruption charges, who coined the "works for you” slogan. It's an interesting campaign slogan for Clark, considering his former executive assistant pleaded no contest to illegally using county computers, on county time, to do opposition research and keep records for Ken Clark's PAC. An investigation found that the political action group paid Ken Clark’s political consulting firm $44,000, most of what the PAC had raised.

Not all career politicians become crafty in self-serving ways — but unfortunately some do. This is Galveston County’s most current red flag. Heed to the warning signs. It is time for change in the Precinct 4 county commissioner position, support Michelle Hatmaker.
