The main thing I got from observing the Democrat impeachment attempt. The Democrats proved beyond any doubt that Trump was innocent of all charges and more honest than any of the Democrats involved After interveiwing 18 witnesses, all anti Trump, they wanted more witnesses and claim it was a farse trial without them. A perfect ending to a farse impeachment.

Dan Freeman

False or farce? Neither. It was a fair indictment with a kangaroo court for the trial.

Carlos Ponce

The only offense Trump committed was to be elected in 2016. Schiff, Nadler and Pelosi, the Three Stooges of the House, made allegation after allegation and settled on something that is neither a Constitutional ground for impeachment nor removal from office. In the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton they named specific statutes in the United States Code of Law that were violated. Here .... NOTHING - Zero, Zilch, NADA! The Senate will vote NOT to remove the President based on the Constitution and laws of the United States. The Three House Stooges knew this even before the impeachment vote was taken. This impeachment was simply an excuse to allow Democrats to attack the President during an election year from the House and Senate floor. Something House and Senate rules do not allow them to usually do. But it will backfire. Trump will win re-election in November. And the handful of Democrats who subscribe to this paper will take the opportunity to put Letters to the Editor, Columns and on-line comments to try to undermine the elections with hyperbole and falsehoods. Anyone with intelligence can see their ruse. We will see them as the fourth Stooge. In addition to the OCTOBER SURPRISE they will inundate readers with fake "BOMBSHELLS". We are on to your gimmicks.

Dan Freeman

Actually, Johnson was tried for breaking a law later found to be unconstitutional. Morever, many impeachments including that of John Jay were for pure politics. The House found probable cause for the two counts of the impeachment. The Senate has effectively denied the right to a fair trial by refusing to allow the prosecution witnesses.

Michael Jozwiak

Trump has been a long-time crook even years before his election. Now in office, he's proved to be a traitor also by using his office to stay in office and violating the emoluments clause by profiting excessively through his hotels and clubs. We have GOP sycophants representing us, possibly under threats or bribes from Trump, and only interested in preserving their own positions, including Cornyn and Cruz. They no longer have morals and place their enrichment over the goodwill of the people they pretend to represent. This will become a horrid chapter in the history of the US, and Trump will be perpetually labeled impeached and all that says, convicted or not.

Craig Mason

He was also a democrat before the election so I find it funny that so many in the republican party are in lock step with him. The one republican that I also am concerned about is Devin Nunes. He has taken part in a conspiracy with foreign agents to undermine America's diplomatic mission. It is scary as hell the actions he has taken. Some might even say it borders on treason. Conspiring with foreigners by a duly elected US Congressman, should scare the bejeezus out of people, no matter their party affiliation.

Carlos Ponce

"I find it funny that so many in the republican party are in lock step with him." I only agree with Trump's measures that are Conservative in nature.

"Conspiring with foreigners by a duly elected US Congressman, should scare the bejeezus out of people, no matter their party affiliation." Reminiscent of Senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry.

Craig Mason

OK still not right no matter who does it.

Carlos Ponce

Not of your charges was proven, Michael, because they are not true. All you are doing is regurgitating Liberal talking points.

Cindy Milina

If only you understood the Constitution, and more importantly, how the Impeachment process works. It is Congress's job to bring the Charges, call the witnesses, and gather the evidence which it then presents to the Senate. The Senate's job is to review the evidence, then vote on whether to remove a sitting President based on the evidence presented. They have no obligation to do the Congress's job of building the case. They are simply the Jury. Stop watching cable news for your facts.

Craig Mason

Its not Congress' job to bring charges, it is the house of representatives job to bring charges which is part of congress, along with the senate. Every impeachment trial in history has called witnesses. That is called precedent, which in many cases, past precedent is used to determine future actions or rulings. Personally I would have liked to have heard from witnesses, so I could decide for myself if the president's actions were grounds for removal. Not that it would make difference what I think, but it would have been nice to have everything out in the open.

Bailey Jones

Woe to the next president who faces an opposition House and Senate. The new precedent is that any president who is impeached by the house can be removed by the senate with nothing more than 16 hours of argument, and not a single witness being called in his defense.

Carlos Ponce

"new precedent" Name one live witness who was called by the Senate in the trial of Bill Clinton. There weren't ANY! They used video from the House Hearings just like in 2020. You WERE alive in 1999, right Bailey? You must not have been paying attention.

Bailey Jones

Quit lying, Carlos. The Senate trial of Clinton presented videotaped testimony of three witnesses, Monica Lewinsky, Vernon Jordan, and Sidney Blumenthal. The Senate trial began on January 7, 1999. The House managers presented their case from January 14 to 16. On January 27th Senators voted to allow witness testimony. The videotaped depositions were taken February 1-3, and presented to the Senate on February 6th. These witnesses did not testify during the House impeachment - they were additional witnesses called in to supplement the House case during the Senate trial.

Carlos Ponce

The 1999 Trial videotaped the House testimony. They wanted Monica Lewinsky - LIVE but the Senate voted 30-70 AGAINST that since they had her House impeachment testimony videotaped.

Bailey Jones

To summarize - you lie, then when called on it, you lie again, rather than admit your error. As I've noted before, you are the exemplar of conservatism in the Age of Trump.

C'mon, Carlos - double down Trump style. Tell us how the deposition that she (and the other two witnesses) gave in February 1999 was part of the House impeachment that ended in December 1998.

Carlos Ponce

Bailey, we're posting the same thing so how can yours be true and mine a lie?

Carlos Ponce

FACTS: Both Senates in 1999 and 2020 used video testimony, no live witnesses. If you deny that then you're re-writing history.

Bailey Jones

Well, Carlos, sometimes you have trouble understanding things. We are not saying the same thing. You are saying that these three witnesses were depositioned as part of the House impeachment proceedings, and the video subsequently played during the Senate trial - as was done in the Trump trial. This is not correct. These witnesses DID NOT TESTIFY during the House impeachment proceedings. During the trial (AFTER the house had CONCLUDED its impeachment proceedings), the Senators VOTED TO ALLOW NEW WITNESSES, and these three were then depositioned, DURING, AND AS PART OF, the Senate trial, NOT the House impeachment proceedings. So the Clinton Senate trial did, in fact, compel witnesses to come forth and testify, which makes the Trump trial - where no new witnesses were compelled to come forth and testify - a NEW PRECEDENT. Capitalized to aid in your understanding.

Carlos Ponce

Who conducted the videoed questioning in 1999? Democrat House members Ed Bryant and Asa Hutchinson. Did the Senate vote on whether the witness video could be taken? No, but they voted for it to be submitted as evidence by the House managers. Did any Senate member question Lewinsky, Jordan, and Sidney Blumenthal? No.

See Congressional Record

https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/1999/02/04

Dan Freeman

The Senate must must 67 votes to convict. This is possible but rare.

Mike Zeller

Every Impeachment Trial has had New witnesses in the Senate (Judicial and Presidential) - " Every impeachment trial completed in the Senate’s 231 year history has featured witnesses who had not testified in the House, according to an analysis published today by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). In each of the 15 impeachment cases completed by the Senate, witnesses who WERE NOT HEARD during the House of Representatives’ impeachment investigations testified in front of the Senate. (51-49) No new witnesses, Trump Trial. Only Impeachment Trial NOT to have NEW witnesses. That's a FACT, Carlos! [ohmy]

https://www.citizensforethics.org/press-release/new-witnesses-impeachment/

Mike Zeller

Carlos, I typed slow to help you understand and comprehend the FACTS.

Bailey Jones

Tedious as a toddler. But no matter -

From the Congressional record - 1/27/1999 (the Senate trial of William Jefferson Clinton) -

By 56 yeas to 44 nays (Vote No. 5), Senate agreed to the House of Representatives motion for the appearance of witnesses at a deposition and to admit evidence not in the record.

What's that? Let's look again - Senate agreed to the House of Representatives motion for the APPEARANCE OF WITNESSES at a deposition and to ADMIT EVIDENCE NOT IN THE RECORD.

From the Congressional Record - last Friday -

By yeas 49 yeas to 51 nays (Vote No. 27), Senate rejected that it be in order to consider and debate under the impeachment rules any motion to subpoena witnesses or documents.

I know this is a lot for you to follow, so I'll go through it again.

Clinton trial - Senate votes to hear from new witnesses

Trump trial - Senate votes NOT to hear from new witnesses

These two things are not the same. The are the OPPOSITE.

.

Bailey Jones

OF COURSE the Clinton witnesses were questioned by the House Managers - they are the prosecutors in a Senate trial. Senators are sworn to silence upon pain of imprisonment - so OF COURSE they would not be questioning witnesses.

Carlos Ponce

3 witnesses appeared in the Clinton Senate trial - on video.

And 17 witnesses appeared in the Trump Senate trial - on video.

Not to worry. Trump will be acquitted tomorrow!

Carlos Ponce

By the way, Mike, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has filed 180 lawsuits against the Trump administration during Trump's FIRST YEAR in office. They portray themselves as a "nonpartisan" organization but anyone who believes that is a total idiot. "Since liberal Democratic operative David Brock became CREW's chairman in 2014, CREW has almost exclusively pursued investigations and litigation against Republicans and conservatives." CREW filed its first lawsuit against Trump three days after his inauguration. Hmmm....

Craig Mason

I believe there were 3 depositions done by the senate, Vernon Jordan, Monica Lewinsky and Clinton’s personal secretary. Don’t remember her name. That’s my memory anyway. Haven’t looked up to verify names.

Carlos Ponce

As Meatloaf sang, "Two out of three ain't bad", Craig. The third was a White House aide Sidney Blumenthal. "On February 4, however, the Senate voted 70–30 that excerpting these videotapes would suffice as testimony, rather than calling live witnesses to appear at trial." So those House managers managed to get video testimony as part of their impeachment inquiry to use as evidence. Today's House managers weren't that smart.[innocent]

Mike Zeller

Carlos Ponce, since you didn't dispute the FACTS by the CREW, I'm going to have to take back what I was thinking about you. "You can't fix ------."

Carlos Ponce

Mike Zeller posted "Carlos Ponce, since you didn't dispute the FACTS by the CREW..." No facts here. It's misinterpretation. It's their opinion.

Dan Freeman

No the Senate tries the defendant impeached. The prosecution should have been allowed to state the case without being denied witnesses and evidence. The Senate is acting as a kangaroo court and the decision should be nullified. The latter is not possible until November.

Michael Jozwiak

Carlos Ponce -- Not proven because the GOP wimps in the Senate were afraid for their own positions or bought off or bribed by Trump and the GOP Senate leadership. Afraid to call any witnesses, any testimony, and evidence while Trump bragged about having documents he would not release or block witnesses through the sham of "executive privilege." He's guilty and a traitor and will eventually end up in jail, if not for his White House practices, then for the crimes in New York. Pull your head out of the sand and get real.

Carlos Ponce

Proof lies with the presenters, the House Managers, not the Senate which sits as a jury.

"He's guilty and a traitor and will eventually end up in jail..." Again, Liberal talking points. Pull head out of the sand, Michael Jozwiak, and study the Constitution and quit worshipping at the altar of Pelosi.

Craig Mason

who is Pelosi?

Dan Freeman

As noted above in trials the prosecution presents witnesses and evidence to a jury. The prosecutors were denied this opportunity. The Senate created a kangaroo court.

Carlos Ponce

"The prosecutors were denied this opportunity." FALSE.

I didn't know Reader's Digest made an abridged version of the Senate Trial minus witnesses and evidence. That must be what Dan saw.

Emile Pope

Trump-2020- 🇺🇸 Please quit this senseless

Petty BS thanks

Democrats are in a complete stage of disarray! They have freaked out! They tried their best to frame and set the President up. They plotted and planned the demise of President Donald J Trump and nothing has worked. Now they are desperate! They are befuddled, miffed, and angry. In fact they are soothing their pain by quoting their ANGER and NAME-CALLING! To that I say grow up and act your age, stop acting like a little kid who had to sit in the back seat instead of the front, or who boohoo when they cannot have an extra piece of candy! The DEMS, THE LEFT, and the DEEP STATE conspired and plotted Trump's demise from the moment he took his Oath of Office. One of the most prominent News Papers in America wrote that same night, " NOW IMPEACHMENT BEGINS!" Congresswoman Maxine Waters began to scream and holler in every microphone she could muster, " IMPEACH 45, IMPEACH 45!" Congressman Green from Houston said, " I rise today to submit articles of Impeachment for the President Of The United States Of America, Donald James Trump!" He and Sheila Jackson Lee never met a TV CAMERA they did not like. So yall tried y'all best, but your best was not good enough, it is that simple! Don't make it more than that.

Jim Forsythe

These are just a few of the times that people called for the impeachment of Obama. Just as other presidents ,it does not matter unless they are impeached. Since Trump was impeached, he becomes number 3 to be impeached, plus Nixon.

In May 2010, Republican Darrell Issa of California stated that the allegation that the White House had offered Pennsylvania Representative Joe Sestak a job to persuade Sestak to drop out of the Pennsylvania Senate primary election against Arlen Specter "is one that everyone from Arlen Spector [sic] to Dick Morris has said is in fact a crime, and could be impeachable"

In August 2011, Republican Congressman Michael C. Burgess of Texas agreed with a rally audience member that the impeachment of Obama "needs to happen

In March 2012, Republican Representative Walter B. Jones introduced H. Con. Res. 107, calling for Congress to hold the sentiment that certain actions of Obama be considered as impeachable offenses, including the CIA's drone program in Afghanistan and Pakistan. [13] The resolution died in the House Judiciary Committee.

At a 2013 town hall meeting with constituents, two years after Obama had released his long-form birth certificate to the public, Congressman Blake Farenthold said that Obama should be impeached due to birther conspiracy theories about Obama. Farenthold said that he thinks that "the House is already out of the barn on this, on the whole birth certificate issue."

On July 8, 2014, the former Governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin publicly called for Obama's impeachment for "purposeful dereliction of duty" In a full statement, she said: "It’s time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment.

The convention of the South Dakota Republican Party voted in a 196-176 resolution to call for the impeachment of Obama based on his action to release five detainees from Guantanamo Bay in order to free Bowe Bergdahl from his Taliban captors

In May 2016, the Oklahoma Legislature filed a measure asking the representatives from Oklahoma in the House of Representatives to impeach Obama,

Carlos Ponce

So... Articles of impeachment were drawn up on Obama like on GW Bush? No.

Jim Forsythe

Biden Impeachment movement has already started. It has happened to a lot of presidents and candidates in the past. Nothing new except that Trump has been impeached.

Feb 4th 2020 ---We've already got the forms': Texas congressman says Republicans are ready to impeach Joe Biden if he wins the election and slams House's 'kangaroo court' against Trump

Louie Gohmert, a Republican congressman from Texas, says the GOP is ready to impeach Joe Biden if he becomes president

October 31, 2019---Bill O’Reilly replied by saying that “if Joe Biden is elected president, the day after he’s sworn in, he has to be impeached. For what he did in Ukraine, right?"

O’Reilly elaborated on his vision, telling Hannity that on inauguration day “Biden goes out to the parade in Washington and, you know, he waves and everything, goes into the Oval Office. And the next day he’s served with impeachment papers!”

Hannity was pleased with the idea, telling his erstwhile colleague that “you and I will be on the parade route. You can wear your Halloween costume of [House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam] Schiff, D-Calif., and I’ll be holding up a sign ‘Impeach Biden.’”

Charles Douglas

I could not help but laugh the other day when the Chief Justice told the Fake House Prosecutors to present their last comments to the Senate. Suddenly Big Jerry Nadler JUMPS out of his seat stumbling over his feet and chairs running, trying to beat Shifty Schiff to the podium to get to the microphone first! Shifty was hollering at Big Nadler, "Jerry, Jerry, ..No Jerry ...let Me ..Let me I'm the Captain!" L ololo! I could not believe it. They crawl out of the dark places where they huddled to conspire against a duly elected President by the people of America with half-baked charges, not thought out, and unconstitutional. Then they commissioned a bunch of individuals who walk down the Hallways Of Congress out of step, heads bobbling up, and down, formally delivering their trash to the Senators. They came out asking that the Senators rubber stamp them... and "KABOOM" the President Of The United States would be out on his Butt. However, they did not count on The President's DREAM TEAM'S effectiveness led by Super Lawyer Jay Sekulow, so they turned to NAME- CALLING, labelling and calling the Senators unkind names along with warning, and threatening them if they did not confirm that messed up plan they hatched up in darkness. They underestimated several things, 1) Donald J Trump. He is no Mitt Romney! 2) Big Mitch McConnell. That man knows his political business. He is no Paul Ryan, Mitch knows how and when to fight! 3) The support of TRUMPITES! 4) The intelligence of the American Voter! Lolo. The LEFT has emptied their arsenal trying to blow Trump out of office to no avail! Listen I will help get him out of office ......in 2024 when we put NIKKI HAYLEY, or MIKE PENCE in his place. That quick enough? Gonna have to be!!! [beam].

Dan Freeman

Similar attempts were made against President Obama, but Republican majorities did not even refer the charges to a committee.

Gary Miller

The house failed to follow the rules set out in the constitution. The Senate followed the rules. Juries don't call for witnesses. Juries hear, consider and rule on the evidence presented. Trump was innocent before impeached and innocent after impeachment. All Democrats have done is demonstrate to voters why they should NOT vote for any Democrat from city to federal.

Jim Forsythe

Gary, what rules set out in the constitution, did the house fail to follow?

Charles Douglas

It does not matter Jim, all that matters is we have Trump for the next FIVE years! DEMS should stop crying about this! It cannot be healthy for yall! I remember well the night Trump won in 2016. I observed people on their knees, hands pressed in between them rocking back and forward crying like they were about to be executed! Some of them held a fist up in the sky, crying like they were blaming GOD for Trump winning over Clinton! In many ways they have been crying, bellyaching, and complaining every since. Get off the tracks ..... the Diesel Train is coming through. You can't stop it. Roll with it.....Roll with it. Lastly, when all else fails, the LEFT brings up history, what history will say. Let me tell you about Trump. Trump is much like I am. He could care less about what people say now, let along what they say about him after he is dead. Well, there goes that history negativy.

What else you got?

Jim Forsythe

Charles.

If it does not matter, why did you bring up that people said Trump needs to go, just as people are now saying, if Biden is elected, he must be impeached?

God does not take side in elections. Clinton is not running this time and the candidate for the Democrat's has not been chosen yet. It could also include a 3ed party candidate. Do not forget that Bloomberg said he will spend up to One Billion to make sure Trump is not reelected.

Charles, the total vote in Nov. will be close You can rant all about how Trump will win no matter what, but that's not true.

Where are you hanging out that you see people on their knees, hands pressed in between them rocking back and forward crying like they were about to be executed. Or is that only on TV? Remember, it's all fake news on TV.

Carlos Ponce

Jim, Schiff ordered Subpoenas without authorization from the full House. That can be done in normal committee hearings but not an impeachment inquiry. That's why the Justice Department ruled the subpoenas for witnesses and documents were invalid. Pelosi finally took the vote but failed to re-issue the subpoenas.

Jim Forsythe

Rules changed in 2015 allowing delegating subpoena power to individual chairmen.

Republicans changed the playbook in 2015 when they rewrote rules delegating subpoena power to individual chairmen without full approval from the House of Representatives. Democrats reaffirmed that process earlier this year, adopting impeachment rules that includ[e] granting their chairmen the right to issue subpoenas unilaterally.

Rule XI, clause 2(m)(3) also allows committees to adopt rules to delegate the authorization and issuance of subpoenas to a committee’s chair “under such rules and under such limitations as the committee may prescribe.” This same subparagraph requires subpoenas to be signed by the chair or by a member who has been designated by the committee. At the time, Republican defended the rule change as necessary to effectively investigate the Obama administration.

Justice Department officially declared any subpoenas issued on behalf of the inquiry would be “legally invalid” if Democrats refused to allow witnesses to show up with White House attorneys. Not that Subpoenas were without authorization from the full House!

Carlos Ponce

Jim, they took the vote AFTER the Schiff's dungeon inquiries began. Schiff is SHIFTY.

Dan Freeman

The House was acting like a grand jury, not a petit jury. Under the Constitution the Senate served both as a petit jury and the judge, since it has the power to over rule by majority vote the presiding officer. In this case the Senate, acting as a judge, denied the prosecution the right to present evidence. A well known tactic of the Jim Crow era.

Carlos Ponce

"denied the prosecution the right to present evidence" Evidence was presented. As in 1999, no live witnesses.

Charles Douglas

Everybody should settle down, get your popcorn and Diet Coke, ready because Mr. DJ. TRUMP will be talking good tonight. It will be all but over after tonight![beam]

Craig Mason

Not unless he is lip syncing, because he is an idiot!

Gary Miller

Craig> Are you suggesting an idiot has outsmarted the whole Democrat party for over three years? You should be glad he isn't a genius.

Charles Douglas

You nailed it Mr. Miller!!!! We need to find more idiots who can produce the way this one does. We can do without all these smart guys who run when the enemy cross their REDLINES, and who don't know what to do when an ISIS fighter point a machete at them on video talking smack just before he BEHEADED a western citizen! I sent this idiot a sizeable donation yesterday, and Martha McSalley of Arizona too! I love idiots who get stuff done for people when he ask for their vote.
