A huge "thank-you" goes out to all who participated in the fifth annual Toys For A Claus tennis tournament, easily making it the most successful to date.

Players and non-players alike collected more than 60 toys for The Ronald McDonald House of Galveston, which were delivered immediately after the tournament by host Mitchell Moreno and members of the J. Frank Dobie High School tennis team.

Fifteen teams braved cold and windy conditions, but walked away with the warmest of feelings knowing they had done a great deed for families dealing with challenging conditions over the holidays.

Of course, the tournament couldn't have taken place without the cooperation of the city of Galveston Parks and Recreation Department, most notably Director Barbara Sanderson and her staff.

On a side note, congrats and thank you as well to Galveston's own Mike Evans. It's wonderful to see he hasn't forgotten his hometown roots, recently treating the Ball High School boys' basketball team to a few days of fun and lifelong memories in Florida.

So, kudos to Evans for being nominated NFL Man of the Year. He’s definitely Galveston’s Man of the Year, Mitchell a close second.

Manuel Moreno Jr.
