This is how we make America great again: Go to Japan and party with the very people that filled up the Arlington National Cemetery.

How ironic is that? Does this mean that he brings back with him a Japanese official that will lay the wreath at the grave of The Unknown Solder at Arlington?

It's ironic that our president skipped an event at Arlington National Cemetery for playing golf in Japan.

TDS is a terrible disease.

By all means let us not drive any car made by BMW, Mercedes Benz, or, for that matter, Daimler-Chrysler. George probably drives a Toyota or Honda.

"playing golf in Japan"
If that's all you got out of President Trump's trip to Japan you are badly misinformed.
President Trump met with Prime Minister Shinzō Abe to discuss North Korea and Japanese - US trade negotiations.
Trump is the first foreign dignitary to meet the new Emperor of Japan, Emperor Naruhito, and Empress Masako at the Tokyo Imperial Palace.
Trump met with active duty servicemen on Memorial Day on the USS Wasp honoring them for their service.
During his presentation he called up a US Marine whose relatives have served in the United States military going back to the Revolutionary War.
Trump called up those whose relatives had died in service to their country.
If you missed his remarks watch the following:
"Trump delivers Memorial Day remarks to troops aboard USS Wasp"
And what did George A. Laiacona do on Memorial Day? Grill in the back yard? Go to the beach?

Ron Woody

Carlos, I admire your persistence. I just can not even do this anymore. Individuals that do not research and only believe what the Democrat Party Media report. Carry on and my prayers for your efforts!

From my perspective, thanks for the facts that you present!

David Smith

Well.... the man you hate so bad didnt sell 20 % of our uranium to Russia
He didnt send a pallet full of money to our enemy.
He also didnt sign an agrrement to give our enemy the tools to build an Atomic Bomb..
Who did?
But you go right ahead and think Betos the answer.
Common sense isnt common

Partying with former enemies is exactly what a president should be doing. We need more of that.

Gary Miller

One time enemies make good friends. Obama tried to buy Iranian friendship and strenthened an enemy. Germany, Italy and Japan are former enemies that are now reliable friends, Iran is still an enemy.

Shaun FitzPatrick

Mr. Miller, your point is taken, but I suggest you keep proportion in mind. The Obama Administration orchestrated the release of $1.7 Billion to Iran, a bad idea in my opinion, but given the $480 Billion GDP of Iran, the impact was not strategic. Far more strategic was the transformation of Iraq into an Iranian puppet state. I took part in that effort, and while I will never be ashamed of my actions or the actions of my fellow Marines and sailors, I still remain perplexed by our political leaders' handling of the post-invasion period in Iraq, which upended the power dynamic in the Middle East decidedly in Iran's favor.

Plus, he had the USS John McCain there to back him up. (He just didn’t know it.)

Carlos Ponce

"Plus, he had the USS John McCain there to back him up." Not quite. She was at the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center but is still undergoing repairs. Not exactly in a position "to back him up".
"USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) arrived at Fleet Activities Yokosuka Wednesday where repairs will be made to fix the damage caused by the deadly Aug. 21 collision with a merchant ship. Repairs, one of the largest such projects to occur at U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center, are expected to take about a year to complete, according to a statement released by the Navy. When McCain collided with the tanker Alnic MC outside of Singapore, the merchant ship’s bulbous bow struck the port side of the warship, causing extensive damage and flooding below the waterline, resulting in the death of 10 sailors."
The collision was on August 21, 2017. She arrived at the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility in December 5, 2017 aboard the heavy lift transport vessel MV Treasure. Repairs were supposed be take one year. It's taking longer.
"The ship is expected to complete repairs in late 2019."

Miceal O'Laochdha

Too bad she was not dry towed to an American shipyard...we need the work... Especially when it entails a (typical) 100% extension of the Period of Performance.

Carlos Ponce

Too badly damaged to tow back to the United States. She did make it to Singapore then was placed aboard the heavy lift transport vessel MV Treasure for transport to the Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC).

Jim Forsythe

No one has reported the USS John S McCain has been placed in drydock again, after it left it last year.
November 28, 2018
"USS John S McCain leaves dry dock more than year after fatal collision leaves dry dock more than year after fatal collision"
It has been reported that the name of the ship was hidden from trump.
'' A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed to Reuters that an initial request had been made to keep the John McCain out of sight during Trump's speech but was scrapped by senior Navy officials. ''

Carlos Ponce

"It has been reported that the name of the ship was hidden from trump(SIC)." That is FAKE NEWS, Jim. It was NEVER hidden.
If there was a request to hide the name, President Trump knew nothing about it. Sounds like someone's idea of a joke.
"speaking on condition of anonymity" = suspicious validity
Leaving dry dock is just a part of repair work when the hull is repaired. There's a lot more to this kind of ship than the hull. It will remain under repair until late 2019 before returning to the fleet.

Miceal O'Laochdha

Carlos, what you are describing regarding the MV Treasure is exactly what is meant by a "dry-tow". Regardless of the extent of hull damage, a vessel on a dry-tow ship can go anywhere adjacent to the sea. Including NASSCO shipyard in San Diego that handles navy vessels regularly. Money was saved by shortening the dry-tow to a Navy shipyard in Japan and 2 years worth of work is being carried out by Japanese workers while American shipyards and their workforce struggle daily to survive.

Carlos Ponce

Correct, but US Ship yards in Pascagoula, Mississippi are working on the USS Fitzgerald which was also involved in a collision. Why was it transported to Mississippi? It was due for scheduled upgrades, specifically HM&E; Combat System; and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Collaboration and Intelligence upgrades.
As to the USS John McCain -
"To begin the repair and restoration effort, the Navy immediately reached out to personnel at Bath Iron Works (BIW) in Bath, Maine. BIW is the company that originally constructed the ship and currently serves as the planning yard for work on in-service Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. The BIW employees worked alongside representatives from Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Supervisor of Shipbuilding, also in Bath, Maine, to conduct a material assessment of the ship. That information was then used by SRF-JRMC and the local Japanese repair contractor, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, to plan and swiftly execute the work ahead."

Miceal O'Laochdha

Those are a handful of supervisors; you can reasonably estimate 25-30 Japanese craft workers to 1 SupShip or Bath supervisor/consultant. I am afraid one cannot rely solely upon what one learns on the internet. Sometimes you have to talk to a person who has spent a lifetime in the ship operations and repair/conversion business to know what is really happening. This was a job for an American West Coast Yard, not Pascagoula, Norfolk, Charleston, Bayonne, Boston, or Bath; all of which incur the very substantial cost of Canal transit or additional 1 month plus at sea to go around the Horn or Good Hope to avoid the Canals. They could also have gone to Guam, and thereby given some of the business to Galveston and Port Arthur.

Dan Freeman

Not only was the ship's name hidden, the crew were not permitted to attend the President's speech:

Trump denied knowing about this, but he then went on to attack the late Senator McCain.
The White House asked the Navy to hide a destroyer named after Senator John McCain in order to avoid having the ship appear in photographs taken while President Trump was visiting Japan this week, White House and military officials said Wednesday.

Although Navy officials insisted they did not hide the ship, the John S. McCain, they did give all of the sailors aboard the day off on Tuesday as Mr. Trump visited Yokosuka Naval Base.

Two Navy sailors, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said that the McCain sailors were not invited to hear Mr. Trump speak that day aboard the amphibious assault ship Wasp, while sailors from other American warships at the base were.

Carlos Ponce

"Not only was the ship's name hidden, the crew were not permitted to attend the President's speech:"
Sorry Dan, that's not true. FAKE NEWS.
"The US Navy says it did not obscure John McCain's name on the ship during Trump's visit."
"Donald J. Trump✔@realDonaldTrump
I was not informed about anything having to do with the Navy Ship USS John S. McCain during my recent visit to Japan. Nevertheless, @FLOTUS and I loved being with our great Military Men and Women - what a spectacular job they do!"
"U.S. officials said that the tarp was placed on the ship for maintenance, but it was taken down for the visit. A spokesperson for U.S. 7th fleet said that the tarp had been removed before Trump’s Saturday morning visit, and that all ships were in 'normal configuration.' ”
"Navy Chief of Information Verified account @chinfo
The name of USS John S. McCain was not obscured during the POTUS visit to Yokosuka on Memorial Day. The Navy is proud of that ship, its crew, its namesake and its heritage."

However, the USS Dan Freeman was no where to be seen.

Dan Freeman

That proves it. FAKE NEWS is the new trompe for the truth.

Carlos Ponce

No, Dan. "FAKE NEWS" means it's not true.
The admirals, officers, sailors and US Marines say it did not happen. Are you calling men and women who currently serve "liars"?

Gary Miller

It should be noted that the ship "John S McCain" was named after a WW II Admirable not after Senator McCain.

Carlos Ponce

Actually two admirals when commissioned in 1994, the Senator's father and grandfather. But upon re-commissioning in 2018 just prior to his death they added the Senator's name to the list.

Carlos Ponce

"The Navy also pushed back against reports that the crew on the USS John S. McCain had been ordered to stay away from the President's visit. Officials say all U.S. Navy personnel on the base were given 96 hours of leave. Sailors were not authorized to wear ball caps with their ship's name on it in an effort to maintain uniformity among the sailors. Instead, all sailors were required to wear their 8-point service covers."

Trumps Japan trip has not made him look good in the worlds eyes. First disrespecting a fellow American per the Dixie Chicks standard. Now, the flap about hiding the name of the USS John S. McCain, because he does not like someone .

President Trump intends to officially nominate Patrick Shanahan, who has been acting defense secretary, to be defense secretary. Now with Trump saying, someone else hide the USS John McCain's name, his being confirmed is not a sure thing. Fingers from the White House are pointing Patrick Shanahan way.

'Out of sight': Trump confirms USS John McCain was hidden from his view .
President said ship bearing the name of his nemesis was blocked during Japan visit ‘because they thought I didn’t like him. Trump is setting up a, someone else did it excuse.
We know that the buck does not stop with Trump.

Carlos Ponce

The ship was not hidden. The ship was undergoing repairs and had a tarp over parts of the hull. "One of those officials reportedly clarified that a tarp used on the ship, which temporarily covered the vessel’s name, had been placed there as part of ongoing maintenance rather than specifically for the purpose of keeping the McCain family name out of view for Trump’s visit, and that the tarp had been removed before Trump’s speech," - Snopes.
"Trump is setting up a, someone else did it excuse." No, he's just telling the truth.
Snopes - "Did the White House Ask the Navy to Keep the USS John S. McCain ‘Out of Sight’ for Trump’s Visit?"
Conclusion - unproven
The ship was commissioned on July 2, 1994 and named after the senator's GRANDFATHER and FATHER, Admiral John S. McCain, Sr., and Admiral John S. McCain, Jr.. The Senator's name was added as a namesake in a recommissioning service on July 11, 2018.

Jim Forsythe

Trump is setting up a, someone else did it excuse.

Out of sight': Trump confirms USS John McCain name was hidden from his view . President said ship bearing the name of his nemesis(the name) was blocked during Japan visit ‘because they thought I didn’t like him.

But sailors hung a tarp over the ship’s name, and other measures (a strategically positioned barge) helped obscure the offending words. Sailors were told to remove all coverings that might indicate that the ship is the USS John S. McCain. They were given the day off, lest the name John McCain, embroidered on their caps, give offense. On the day of the presidential visit, some of the sailors present wore “Make Aircrew Great Again” patches, with something that resembled Trump’s profile on them.

After the investigation about this, we will know what part Trump had in it.

Carlos Ponce

"But sailors hung a tarp over the ship’s name, and other measures (a strategically positioned barge) helped obscure the offending words."
Not true, Jim.
The ship is being repaired. The tarp was not to obscure the ship nor its designation. And the tarp was not present during Trump's visit. Photos showing the tarp were taken at an earlier date.
Check these Tweets from the Naval Chief of Information:
"The name of USS John S. McCain was not obscured during the POTUS visit to Yokosuka on Memorial Day. The Navy is proud of that ship, its crew, its namesake and its heritage."
"Respectfully, this article reports that the tarp that was on the stern of the ship was removed prior to the visit, and the article includes my response. I don't think we disagree."
"This article cites another article that says a barge was moved in front to obscure the name. I dispute that. There was not a barge obscuring the ship name during the visit. The only barge near the stern was one for wastewater that is always there. Anything else had been moved."
This is from the US Navy. Your post is similar to an article from "The Atlantic" citing "unnamed sources".
"offending words" ???? The ships were named for the senator's father and grandfather when commissioned in 1994. They are not offensive to President Trump.

Jim Forsythe

Investigations may happen, and if they do show the President ordered the coverup of the name, it would not be the coverup of the name that is the big deal, but the President lying about it. This is not as important as the 5% tariffs on Mexico, North Korea, Iran, selling arms to Saudi Arabia , Infrastructure.

“I am appalled to hear of the allegations surrounding the USS John S. McCain," McSally (R-Ariz) said in a written statement. "There needs to be a full investigation into who ordered it and what occurred."
The late senator's legacy should be honored and respected, McSally said.
Communications tied to the matter and obtained by The Arizona Republic show that on May 15, an official emailed other officers a to-do list in anticipation of Trump's trip. The third bullet point on the email said, "USS John McCain needs to be out of sight." Earlier in the email, he wrote, "Also, please confirm #3 will be satisfied."
Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said has asked his chief of staff to probe reports of wanting to hide the

A senior Navy official confirmed that he was aware someone at the White House sent a message to service officials in the Pacific requesting that the USS John McCain be kept out of the picture while the president was there. That led to photographs taken Friday of a tarp obscuring the McCain name, the official said, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. When senior Navy officials grasped what was happening, they directed Navy personnel who were present to stop, the senior officials.

President Donald Trump on Thursday morning again denied that he had anything to with a reported request to move the USS John S. McCain "out of sight" during his recent state visit to Japan, but he said whoever made the request was "well meaning."

The White House asked Navy officials to obscure the USS John S. McCain while President Trump was visiting Japan, Pentagon and White House officials said Wednesday night. A senior Navy official confirmed he was aware someone at the White House sent a message to service officials in the Pacific requesting that the USS John McCain be kept out of the picture while the president was there. That led to photographs taken Friday of a tarp obscuring the McCain name, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

White House Wanted USS John McCain ‘Out of Sight’ During Trump Japan Visit
U.S. military officials worked to ensure President Trump wouldn’t see the warship that bears the name of the late senator, a frequent target of the president’s ire

Carlos Ponce

"Investigations may happen, and if they do show the President ordered the coverup of the name..." Another "witch hunt".
Nothing there. Why do you hang on to this? Why are you disrespecting the US Navy who said it did not happen?
"The Navy’s top spokesman, Adm. Charlie Brown, tweeted that the ship’s name had not been obscured."
Are you calling Admiral Brown a LIAR?????
It's sad when WSJ is relying on un-named sources. Joining the ranks of WAPO and NYT who are proven wrong when "un-named sources" are used.

Carlos Ponce

And Jim, Liberal Snopes proclaimed the allegation "unproven". Why? Because the WSJ HAS NO PROOF.

Carlos Ponce

"On the day of the presidential visit, some of the sailors present wore 'Make Aircrew Great Again' patches, with something that resembled Trump’s profile on them."
Now that part of Jim's post is true. But the patch is not new. They first appeared in 2017. "This was not the first time members of the Wasp have been photographed wearing the 'Make Aircrew Great Again' patches. In September 2017, a photo showing a sailor from the Wasp helping evacuate families during Hurricane Maria was shared on the official Defense Department Twitter account.
Nice looking patch! It was reviewed in 2017 and nothing more was said about it - until Memorial Day 2019. No problem. Not political. Just a patch honoring US Military Aircrew with the likeness of the Commander in Chief.
"In December, questions were raised when troops in Iraq and Germany asked Trump to sign red 'Make America Great Again' baseball caps. Air Force officials said at the time that there is no rule against airmen bringing personal items to be signed by the president."
Now the jacket displaying President 44 bowing down emblazoned with the logo "Obama Apology Tour" was nixed.[wink]

I'm no Trump fan, but this was a really goofy excuse to slam him in a letter to the editor. SMH, as they say on social media... [cool]

This is petty, ridiculous, and evident of the fact that this is all the Trump haters can do....create nonexistent drama. They can't slam the economy, unemployment, stock market, trade equity, they use fictitious events to throw shade. It's going to be so nice watching him get reflected again.

Charles Douglas

What I've read in some of these comments really troubles me. There are individuals in this country who never expected PRESIDENT Trump to win the 2016 election. That was not all, many of them had a hissy-fit when he won! So the Obama administration sic this country's spies, FBI operatives, CIA, NSA, and anybody else who would cooperate with them, out to perpetuate a lie and a sham in order to get him impeached. Only thing is things did not work out! One thing I have learned is you cannot hurt who God is helping and you cotton-picking "SHO" cannot curse anyone he has BLESSED! Now as a Vietnam Veteran with more medals on my wall including the bronze star, than the average person, I say this, SO WHAT IF POTUS didn't like John McCain? I didn't like him myself, because he pretended to be a Republcan, and bragged openly about being the Maverick of the Republican party, which was code for being a Rhino! On top of it all the man HATED PRESIDENT Trump until they put him in his grave and he gave orders to his family to not let the POTUS come to his funeral. That was the ultimate insult from the grave! SO POTUS did send him a response which included that ship incident, one who has wore the green, and packed the M16 for this nation, with my life on the line, I say GOOD FOR POTUS!!!!!!!!

Emile Pope

You have no idea of what you’re talking about. Yet you insist on letting everyone else know this. And using the “cotton-picking” comment was extremely offensive.

Charles Douglas

I don't think you know what you are talking about, and if you have never picked any cotton like I have, then WHY are you offended at the use? You, by saying you are offended at the use of the word makes you just like all the others who have been blinded to the truth and are running around tearing down statues and marking up buildings because you heard something bad about those who built them. There is nothing wrong with the word cotton-picking, and it is far better than the word I WANTED to use! Anymore trash you want to yak? Lol.
Another thing you put your head in a book and read about cotton-picking things I have seen, experienced and lived through. So now What? Anymore trash, or can we call it a day? You seem like you want to prove how smart you are but again, I'm not impressed!

Charles Douglas

Oh, btw, I'm one of those minority deplorables which you can smell in a Wal-mart store a mile off. I use to be on the Left's plantation just like my parents, God rest their souls. However, I've become more like Kunte Kinte instead of a Toby or a Fiddler! I don't take handouts for my vote! I watched my parents do it for decades, but they did not know any better! When you don't know better it is hard to see better, which hinders one from DOING better!

Gary Miller

JBG! One American hero at a time. I too once picked cotton and had my hand out for freebies. I retired at age 50 by pleasing my employers and investing part of what I earned..

Charles Douglas

Gary, you got me, I packed it in at age 54 by using the same principles you spoke of above. Takes some focus and getting use to, but one can live a prosperous life without handouts ..especially those with strings tied to them. I know you know what I mean.

Gary Miller

JBG. We did it the right way. When our employer believed we were "profitable" employees they promoted us with raises. When we retired at 50 or 54 our employers hated to see us go but wished us well and thanked us. If someone on welfare gets a job and becomes independent their bureaucrats feel betrayed.

Charles Hughes

Like Kunte.Hmmm! Uncle Ruckus maybe..

Keith Gray

JBG??? Welcome back friend...

Charles Douglas

Mr. Gray, how you been? That football over where you are did get better just like we predicted years ago! I'm happy about That!!!!
