Healthcare workers should be protected. Texans are depending on you to make sure it happens and that the front line people have adequate PPE to change between patients and not use the crazy CDC guidelines for conservation of POE because our country was not prepared.

It doesn’t sound like we have reached our goals yet. What is the timeline for achieving that equipment to make a difference and protect healthcare workers and their patients.

Keep up the fight. It’s important.

Stuart Crouch

Who woke him up? I guess he had to get his name and headshot out there for something; Feeling a little left out, since Rafael Eduardo Cruz is battling Hollywood over censorship of Chinese 'talkies', or some such chicanery. These guys can invent 'hate' in so many new flavors! Astounding!

The Chinese have a huge say in American movies. If there is something the Chinese don't like, the writers have to re-write, clothing changed, etc. In Top Gun II, Tome Cruise's jacket was altered. The Chinese didn't like the Japanese and Taiwan flags on his bomber jacket from Top Gun. So for the sequel these were replaced. But Hollywood is still asking for use of military ships, bases, aircraft.

Sometimes they just censor the movie for Chinese audiences. In "Bohemian Rhapsody" the reference to Freddie Mercury's sexual orientation (homosexual) was removed upon Chinese government demands. So that means Freddie Mercury is now straight in China?

Freddie Mercury is not straight in China, because he died.

China just like most other countries has edited or banned movies from around the world.

Many movies that are shown in other countries have had content changed. We can not expect other countries to have the same values as we have.

China and other countries may require a part of the move to be cut before it can be shown.

I do not know what you saw when you watched "Bohemian Rhapsody" but it was clear that Freddie Mercury was not homosexual but Bi-sexual in the USA version.

Editing was a problem with the film as John Ottman replaced Bryan Singer who left mid-production. John Ottman said, he regrets some of the choices made in the final cut. “Whenever I see it, I want to put a bag over my head… that’s not my aesthetic". This was the USA version.

Below are just 9 movies from many that were once or are now banned in the United States or in just a few States.

The Birth of a Nation, Häxan, The Vanishing Prairie, I Am Curious (Yellow), Birth Control (the movie), The Profit, The Last Temptation of Christ,

Scarface (The original 1932 version), The Tin Drum.

The movies that have been changed because of censors in the USA are too many to list. Last Tango in Paris is just one of these. Some are even changed, to change a PG rating to an R rating to increase sales.

Tom Cruise's jacket change, was the patches.TheTop Gun movies are set at a different time so they had different patches.

The patches in the different top Gun movies? Different tours: Top Gun 1 -- Far East Cruise 63-4, to honor his dad. Now in Top Gun 2, it has been replaced with an Indian Ocean Cruise 85-86. The USS Galveston patch was replaced with a United States Navy patch.

Carlos Ponce

The Top Gun patches were changed at the request of the Chinese.

Why "Far East Cruise 63-4, USS Galveston patch." It was meant as a tribute to the Galveston's actual tour of the Western Pacific as well as Japan and Taiwan (his dad)—hence the United Nations, American, Japanese and Taiwanese flags.

Why “85-86” “Indian Ocean Cruise patch,” it was where the dogfights in the original “Top Gun” took place. Different times, different patches which did not include the United Nations, Japanese and Taiwanese. If it was some kind of Chinese thing because they are financing it, why did they keep the USA flag?

Carlos Ponce

People are fond of their old jackets. They don't replace old decals. They ADD to them.

Jim Forsythe

One more patch would make the lookout of balance. What patch would you remove, as two large patches would be too cluttered of a look.

The jacket has 17 patches and has no room for another large patch, Also remember Tom is not a large man, so there is less space for patches on his jacket.

Top Gun is a movie and not real life, and being in balance is important in making movies.

Top Gun (1986) had Wingate Jones and John Napolitano who were in charge of men's wardrobe. They did not work on the new Top Gun (2020).

The new people in charge may have just preferred to change the patch for a new look, for a new movie. This makes it possible to sell more jackets to movie fans. Merchandising is a big part of making money on movies. They are selling the jackets for between $160 and $200.

Carlos Ponce

Bottom line: the Chinese distributor had it changed.

Jim Forsythe

Tencent is partnering with Paramount Pictures to promote the new Top Gun movie. Paramount Pictures is having Tencent do the promotion in China, as they know the market and after the enthusiasm for the original film in China. Paramount Pictures is the major player in this film making.

From Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos

Tencent has demonstrated its strong capacity in marketing campaigns in China, making Tencent an ideal partner to share this film with a global audience.

Carlos Ponce

So Tencent Pictures of China says remove the Taiwan and Japan flags and Paramount does precisely that offending our Taiwanese and Japanese allies. When China says jump how high does Jim Forsythe go?

Jim Forsythe

When change of tours happens, patches are changed. Trying to make it more complicated then that is just looking for a reason to promote some sort of conspiracy theory. In thirty years Maverick changed, just as his patches did.

The patches in the different top Gun movies? Different tours: Top Gun 1 -- Far East Cruise 63-4, to honor his dad. Now in Top Gun 2, these patches have been replaced with an Indian Ocean Cruise 85-86. The USS Galveston patch was replaced with a United States Navy patch.

It could also be as simple as in the Top Gun movie, parches were changed to get free advertising. It worked as many people are talking about the move, and many that may have not know much about it may go to see it. Free advertising is what a moviemaker dreams of.

Just as with Top Gun 1 this movie will bring in about the same amount of money from foreign showings as it does in the USA. Add in toy sales and the money they will make from companies like Netflix it will come to big bucks. Just as with most businesses, money is the driving factor.

Carlos Ponce

Jim Forsythe - an apologist for the Chi Coms. "The patches in the different top Gun movies?" Replaced Taiwan and Japan because the Chinese communists don't like them. The rest you mention are just red herrings.

Jim Forsythe

You have no proof why the patches were changed.

You have no proof who changed the patches.

You are just spouting the talking points of others.

You will help advertise the movie the more you protest.

If you do not want to see the movie, do not go. For the ones that do, they do not want a remake of the first Top Gun. Maverick has changed and so has the plot of the movie. With the change, things like patches change. Not all of the original cast will be in this movie because things change. New cast members will change the movie just as new wardrobe will.

If you want to see the old patches, watch a rerun of the first Top Gun. If the reason you watched the first Top Gun was to see the patches, you may be the only person that did. You did see the movie?

As with the first Top Gun, the new movie will help recruit people into the service.

The new Top Gun will not be out until December 23, and they may change the patches again before the opening. This is easy to do, and they could change the patch to match the country they are showing it in.

Carlos Ponce

It's SO obvious, Jim.

Jim Forsythe

What is obvious that you are trying to promote the agenda that China is bad no matter what. This is the tactic that will be pushed until after the election.

The change of one patch is not a master plan to change how we think about China. If all it takes is to see one parch to change your opinion, then you had no opinion behand.

Before all this noise about noting, you probably could not have told anyone what was on the original patch on the jacket in Top Gun. Only a true fanatic about the movie would know what was on the parch.

Carlos Ponce

Chinese people are okay. The Chinese Communists are bad.

Carlos Ponce

The Five Eyes (US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) say the Chinese government is bad.

Jim Forsythe

What does coronavirus have to do with patches in Top Gun? The only connection is the delaying of the start date of Top Gun.

Carlos Ponce

It started with a response to Stuart Crouch's statement, "Cruz is battling Hollywood over censorship of Chinese 'talkies'".

Jim Forsythe

It started with your commit, Carlos Ponce May 2, 2020 8:47pm, about Top Gun and Freddie Mercury.

Since then no one has said anything about coronavirus.

What does coronavirus have to do with patches in Top Gun?

Carlos Ponce

No Jim. It started with:

Stuart Crouch May 2, 2020 7:48pm

Who woke him up? I guess he had to get his name and headshot out there for something; Feeling a little left out, since Rafael Eduardo Cruz is battling Hollywood over censorship of Chinese 'talkies', or some such chicanery. These guys can invent 'hate' in so many new flavors! Astounding!

THAT WAS ALMOST A FULL HOUR BEFORE MY COMMENT. If you don't understand how that LED to my comment about Top Gun that doesn't say much about your reasoning ability.

Jim Forsythe

If say so, but Stuart Crouch said nothing about coronavirus.

Since then no one has said anything about coronavirus.

What does coronavirus have to do with patches in Top Gun?

Carlos Ponce

Jim, ask Stuart.

Jim Forsythe

What part of Stuarts reply is about coronavirus?

Stuart Crouch May 2, 2020 7:48pm

Carlos Ponce

Stuart Crouch, Jim posts you have some 'splaining to do.

Connie Patterson

Just so I understand, you say that you support healthcare workers having proper protective equipment. In late March, the Inspector General at HHS finds that there are severe shortages of tests for hospitals to use and widespread shortfalls of protective equipment to keep health workers safe, then gets publicly denounced and fired for it. Where was your “fight” then?
