One early morning walk along the beach in Galveston drives home a sad point about people: Far too many of them can be careless and thoughtless, not to mention downright messy and lazy.

Not everyone, of course. Not even most. But certainly a big enough subsection of the population to be problematic and disheartening.

Some good suggestions in this article, Also, why not some scattered friendly signs like wanting to keep our beaches clean for your pleasure, please do your part,, Enforcement and a $ 0000 fine will be issued to violators.

I agree with the previous comment. Another thought is something basic. There are just not enough trash cans.

[thumbup] Why not use volunteers from county jails? I see inmates picking up trash all over the state.

You cannot expect people to put trash into an overflowing trash can. I have seen the trash cans by the stairs overflowing, and the trash can 50 yards from the stairs half empty. People are just too lazy, or cannot get to the half empty can. We need more cans near the stairs.

Trash and litter have been a problem on our island for many years years. Just look at the brand new storm sewers on Broadway. Almost all of them are full of litter. As long as our city leaders not not think trash and litter is a priority, then nothing will change. Trash and litter is and always been an eyesore of our island.
