Salvation Army volunteers

Kristina Harclerode rings her bell while volunteering for the Salvation Army in front of Kroger in Galveston on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018. Harclerode works with Galveston Island Beach Patrol but spent her morning volunteering.

Now that Halloween is over and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, the proverbial holiday season culminating with Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa is fast approaching.

The Salvation Army of Galveston County, led by Capts. Nathanael and Lucila Doria, is gearing up for the 2019 holiday season a little earlier this year as there are, believe it or not, six fewer days for the community to contribute toward the annual Red Kettle Campaign, which began in 1891 in San Francisco.

The Salvation Army is adamantly against LGBTQ rights. Therefore, I never support the SA and joyously walk right past their bell-ringer outposts.
