Thanks for a positive editorial on a positive project from the city and Moody foundation.

And who doesn't like free stuff?

In "The Gospel of Wealth", Andrew Carnegie wrote that all personal wealth in excess of the needs of one's family should be thought of as a trust fund to be administered for the benefit of society. W.L. Moody, Jr. and Libbie Shearn Moody established the Moody Foundation as a way to share their good fortune with the people of Texas. Their foundation has given more than $1.5 billion back to the people of Texas.

That's capitalism done right. [thumbup]

If we go all the way back to the Roman Empire, wealthy Romans vied for public applause by building theaters, public baths, libraries and other large projects that benefited the community at large. In that respect at least, we are nothing like the Romans for the most part.

What the Moody's, Mitchells and the like did and continue to do is an all too rare example of how significant wealth in a capitalist society can be celebrated for its positive outcomes rather than despised for narcissistic excesses like we see so often with "start-up billionaires" or in self-serving agendas disguised as social conscience.
