The city of Galveston should give serious consideration to a proposal by local vacation rental operators who want to strike a balance between property owners’ rights to profit from their investments and full-time residents who want to enjoy theirs in peace.

It’s too early to call for adopting the proposal, which still is in the early stages. Specific proposals include an annual fee paid by property owners to fund enforcement and compliance programs and to pay for tourism officials whose sole jobs would be to ensure vacation rentals follow the rules, according to the plan.

Great news.

Well, it’s an interesting idea...but as a long term member of STROAG, we have not been afforded the courtesy of seeing the proposal yet. I have no idea what was presented to The Chamber on our behalf. Seems the cart got before the horse on this one.
