Are municipal governments being fleeced by contractors on public projects? Why are U.S. construction costs soaring? Why do even simple projects seem to come in over budget and late?
The League City council agreed Tuesday to create a subcommittee to answer at least one of those questions — why public projects in their city are so expensive. Although their quest is noble, they’ll likely find the answers confounding, complicated and, in some cases, beyond their control. Great minds across the nation have in recent years tried to answer the questions — but without much success.
