One of the few good things about weather calamities such as Texas suffered in February is they can slice through the political BS built up over years like layers of varnish.

It’s easy when things are going reasonably well for politicians to spin myths about the best of all possible worlds, to take credit for the good and blame the other side for the bad.

Well said, Michael.

"The grid collapse was a sweeping indictment of mismanagement against the state’s grid" I absolutely agree, Mr. Smith. We knew after the 2011 Super Bowl storm what was needed to be done, but the people in charge chose not to act.

This issue or electrical power for Texans goes back for decades. When texas Republican legislature decided to go it alone instead of being part of the National Grid. Since then the oil industry that is well planted in the pockets of the Republican congressmen will make the rules. Nuclear power plants , wind turbines ,and collector plates do not make money for the oil and gas companies. Therefore we will never see logical actions taken to improve the electricity distribution until the Republicans are out of control.

Excellent piece Michael. You did your home work for this informative editorial.

Michael, your article is just plain wrong. Natural gas plants are the most reliable of all power generation plants. This is an established fact. Texas is swimming in natural gas. We need less unreliable, taxpayer subsidized, renewables and more natural gas plants fueled with Texas produced natural gas!
