There are two things that stand out about this issue. First, the Park Board should know why they are having a tough time getting bids from vendors. Pretty simple business 101. Maybe too simple? Setting rent for anything should be a win-win situation for both parties. High enough for the owner (Park Board) to make money, and low enough for the vendor to make money. If the rent is too high, it will be “tough” to get multiple vendors to bid. Second thing is the exclusion in the story as to why two park board members abstained? If it’s because the vendor is a relative or neighbor, or any number of solid reasons to abstain, it should have been noted. If they are not capable of making park board decisions, they should step down.

As a matter of policy, reporters are supposed to always find out why members of boards abstain or are absent from votes. The reporter in this case just didn't follow policy.

Elected and appointed leaders must make tough decisions and votes.

Kudos to Marty and David for being strong enough to vote against the majority when you believe you are right. I happen to agree with you, but realize others may not, and that’s ok.
