Hitchcock housing property

A Hitchcock Chamber of Commerce sign advertises various businesses and events on the site of an upcoming low-income development on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019. The housing will be located on the Northeast corner of Highway 6 and FM 2004.

Often, when taxpayers hear about low- to moderate-income housing sprouting up in their neck of the woods, it tends to bring out protesters — and to be honest, the worst in people.

Recently, an application for $17 million in federal funding to build a low- and moderate-income housing development in Hitchcock, similar to those completed in Texas City, like The Oaks at Blue Jay Drive, came to light.
