Voters allowing candidates to be "no shows" are how you get disaster's like Ex-District Judge Chris Dupuy elected. Interaction with the public is fundamental to serving the public. Only those willing to truly "serve", by hearing from the public and answering their questions, deserve to be in positions of leadership. Galveston doesn't need the "Great Wizard of Oz" who hides behind a curtain. Just ask your kids whether the Wizard would make a good president. They know.

Even if it were biased I think I would still show up and debate the issues.

The forum should be held in the district that they will be serving. Attendance will be poor at best.

While I do not live in the GISD, I question how these "no show" candidates will be able to manage or handle similar live/real situations that will take place. You just can't decide to "no show" at contentious Board meetings; you just have to "face the music."

I have attended these forums and they don't change any minds, they simply allow a given candidate to play to their selected audience members. Given the apoplectic response from the GDN, it's clear to me that they (and Betty) are more embarrassed than anything else. Voters in these districts will decide based on more than just this event and the candidates response to it.
