In 2018, nearly 3,800 human beings were sold into sexual slavery. In the United States, 12 million children don’t have enough to eat. This year, 41,760 women in this country will succumb to breast cancer.

As you’re reading this, chances are someone you know has to decide between buying food and buying medicine. And a neighbor feels alone and afraid and is wondering whether anyone cares at all.

Thank you, Ms. Gardner, for another thoughtful piece reminding us to be kind, forgiving, and helpful to our neighbors. There are many small things we can do in our community to help others. Each kind thing is an expression of love and worthiness.

Very well articulated. This will preach!!! A great deal of this I do,....but there is a great deal remaining that I could do. This Op-ed is very encouraging, hard hitting, and practical when you sat quietly and think about it's composition. It backs up and supports what God said. "A new commandment I give you; ...Love one another as I have loved you, that you love one another; and by this others will know that YOU, are my disciples." Another scripture states, "Let him/her who is saved of God be careful to maintain good works." Now can I close? What the author so eloquently wrote in her Op-ed, and along with my insertion of explanation... simply means we should be progressively developing into living lights, and shining memorials of God the Creator's GOODNESS, GRACE, and LOVE, to anyone who cross our pathway,... No matter weather they are Black, White, Brown, or POKA-DOT! God made us "ALL" in his image and likeness, higher, and better created than any other thing, even the angels and I must say it is about time we start acting like it. Somebody say AMEN to that, and thank Ms. GARDNER!! What an article!!! Where have GDN been hiding this writer?

Ah, Save the Starfish! Now if only we could save the future of humanity by eliminating abortions. Those are humans with human DNA. You can make a difference by private funding of facilities to provide alternatives for women thinking of abortion. Sanctuary of Hope is such a place. To help, go to:

A suggestion: we can make a meaningful start by demanding that our national leaders and congressional representatives defund the endless, and mindless, militaristic adventurism that swallows trillions of taxpayer dollars and gives back broken bodies, broken spirits and the undying enmity of so many around the world.

We are a rich country; we have the resources to help those who truly need help. But we can't do it if we allow Republicans and Democrats, left and right wing representatives, to continue the theft, a theft benefiting the military-industrial complex and bleeding the rest of us dry.

Stop the eternal wars, develop a defense capability no one dares test and use that newly liberated funding to benefit humanity rather than accelerate our decent into World War III.
