Jama Jihad Shabazz

Jama Jihad Shabazz

Last Friday, Galveston County, particularly Galveston, lost a man of many hats and devotion by the name of Jama Jihad Shabazz, affectionately known as Coach Jib by mostly everyone who knew him — which was many.

He had a nickname for everyone. Mine was “My Angel,” short for my name, Angela. Every time we’d see each other, he’d greet me with that name and the biggest smile that would just instantly make your day brighter and better.

I remember Shabazz back in the old days when we use to be in the same Sports Officials Association! He was always upbeat, and had a positive outlook on things! I have not been in touch with him for many years. I can remember he and I was assigned to officiate the same games several times. Blessing for his family.

Thanks Angela. A good one gone with much good left to do. Peace to Maggie and the rest of his family.
