Derrick Lee Baker

GALVESTON– Derrick Lee Baker, Sr. age 30 of Galveston, father, brother, uncle and beloved friend passed away Monday, August 27, 2015 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services are 6:30 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.

Derrick was born June 8, 1985 in Bakersfield, California to Wallace Gene Baker and Linda Diane Dearmore. He was a 2004 graduate of Ball High School.  He was an Electrician by trade, starting his career with West End Electric in the 11th grade. He was a Dallas Cowboys Fan since the age of 7 and remained true until the day of his departure. Being a Galvestonian, he was an avid surfing enthusiast. He really enjoyed spending time on the beach and in the surf. He could often be found fishing on the 10th street pier. He was a devoted father and son. He will be missed.

Derrick is preceded in death by his step father, Neal K. Jones and his grandpa, Richard Dearmore. Survivors include his children, Derrick Lee Baker, Jr. and Brianna Lee Baker of Galveston; mother, Linda Diane Jones of Galveston; father, Wallace Gene Baker, Jr. of Washington State; brothers, David Dearmore of Texas City, Norman Baker of Galveston and Noah Jones of Arizona; sister, Brandy Gamboa of Galveston; grandmothers, Marilyn Butterbredt of Reno, NV and Margie Stephens of Taft, CA; grandfather, Wallace Gene Baker, Sr. of Arkansas; numerous other relatives and friends.
