The single by Mendoza capped a five-run inning for the DSL Cardinals Blue that started when Jean Selmo hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Darlin Moquete to cut the DSL Nationals lead to 4-1.

DSL Nationals took a 4-0 lead behind two hits and two RBI from Geraldi Diaz.

Pablo Gomez doubled and singled, also stealing a base in the win.

Angel Ortega (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while DSL Nationals starter Bryan Pena (1-1) took the loss in the Dominican Summer League game. Luis Tena pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

For the DSL Nationals, Diaz doubled twice, driving home two runs.

With the win, DSL Cardinals Blue improved to 4-1 against DSL Nationals this season.
