TEXAS CITY

A couple at the center of a workplace homicide had filed divorce papers in October, according to Galveston County court records.

Documents related to the Oct. 12 divorce filing weren’t immediately accessible through the county’s web-based archive, however.

Brian Edward Miller, 58, was charged with murder Tuesday in the stabbing death of Crystal Lynn Patterson, 36, inside the Timewise Food Store in the 400 block of state Highway 146, according to Texas City police.

Miller was being held Tuesday evening at the Texas City jail on $250,000 bond awaiting transfer to the Galveston County Jail, police said.

Police said they were called to the store about 9:30 p.m. and found Patterson dead.

About 45 minutes later, police received a call from a friend of Miller’s who told dispatchers Miller was claiming to have stabbed his wife.

Miller was taken into custody at a home in the 900 block of Lane Road without incident, police said.

Miller has a history of arrests dating back to 1986, according to Galveston County court records.

He most recently was convicted of evading arrest in 2018. Before that, he was convicted on felony drug charges in 2015 and 2016.

Miller had been released from prison in July 2019, according to public safety records.
