Two people were hospitalized and suspected of being drug impaired Thursday after a chase that sent Santa Fe police across the county.

A Santa Fe police officer tried to stop a vehicle on Algoa-Friendswood Road about 8:45 a.m. Thursday for the improper display of car registration, spokesman Capt. Robert Shores said.

The driver didn't pull over for the officer and drove north on Algoa-Friendswood Road to FM 517 and turned east onto Interstate 45 through Dickinson, Shores said.

The car then exited toward Main Street in La Marque, struck spikes police had laid out and continued to Exit 4, where it made a U-turn, Shores said. The car then continued into Texas City and came to a stop with a deflated tire in the 1400 block of Port Boulevard, Shores said.

The driver, a 37-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 35-year-old man, were hospitalized because they told police they'd ingested narcotics, Shores said.

Police also found out from Pearland police the car the woman had been driving was stolen, Shores said.

No one was injured during the chase, Shores said. Police wouldn't release the names of the people in the car and no charges had been filed as of 10 a.m. Thursday, Shores said.
