Galveston police found the body of Houston resident Everett "E.J." Washington, who went missing last week near Channelview Drive, police said.

Washington, 27, had gone missing early last week after he parked his car on Channelview Drive, police department spokesman Sgt. Derek Gaspard said.

Surveillance video had showed Washington leaving the area and walking away from a 2004 black Hyundai Santa Fe alone at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 6, he said.

Police found Washington's body Saturday in the water in the 8000 block of Channelview Drive, Gaspard said.

It appeared that the body had been in the water for several days, he said.

The cause of Washington's death is still under investigation, he said.

Editor's note: An article about the search for Everett "E.J." Washington appeared in Tuesday's print edition after his body had been found. That article was intended for digital publication Saturday and should not have been published later without an update.
