A 30-year-old woman died after she was shot several times in La Marque Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A man suspected in connection with the shooting was later sent to the hospital after a Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol sergeant shot him, deputies said.

Savannah Paschal was shot at 12:13 p.m. in a home in the 400 block of Hawks View Drive, La Marque Police Department spokesman Lt. Chad Waggoner said.

Paschal was pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m. at the hospital, Galveston County Medical Examiner John “D.J.” Florence said.

Paschal had arrived at a relative’s residence and was surprised to find her estranged husband inside, Waggoner said.

Police spent hours Wednesday afternoon looking for Trent Paschal, 48, Waggoner said.

A man reportedly shot Savannah Paschal and fled in a grey Chevrolet Colorado, Waggoner said. Police found the car in Houston, he said.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies were later helping La Marque police search for the man who shot Savannah Paschal and identified a suspect at a Houston Walmart Market at West Road and I-45, Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland said.

“This person was being watched by our investigator units,” Gilliland said.

As the man left the Walmart at 7:50 p.m., deputies tried to perform a traffic stop, Gilliland said, adding that the man pulled out a pistol and the patrol sergeant shot him.

Officials late Wednesday had connected the man with the shooting in La Marque, Gilliland said. There was also another man in the car who was questioned by officials but not arrested, he said.

The man who was shot was transported to the hospital and was in serious but stable condition late Wednesday, Gilliland said.

Recent efforts in LaMarque between the police and the community to quell the murder rate do not appear to be effective. The problem seems to be other than a Policing related issue. The attention needs to be possibly directed to the basic social functions of respect for others and self. We have become to liberal a society.
