A 32-year-old man was shot and killed outside a League City home on Friday night, during an apparent confrontation with a family member.
Timothy Combs, 32, of Webster, was shot outside a house in the 2600 block of Via Montesano, police said. He died at the scene.
According to a press release, police initially were called about an over-the-phone fight between the resident and Combs. The resident called police and said Combs may be on the way to the home on Via Montesano to fight the resident, according to the release.
Via Montesano is a street of single-family homes in the eastern part of League City about a half-mile away from the League City Intermediate School.
Combs arrived at the house about 10:45 p.m. and found the resident armed with a "tactical rifle" and then went back to his car, according to the police department.
The resident told police that Combs said he was getting a gun from the car. As Combs was searching his vehicle for something, the resident shot into the car multiple times, police said.
A handgun was found inside Combs' car, and the resident was fully cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The resident's name wasn't immediately released and police have not reported what the relationship was between the two men.
No charges were filed against the resident as of Saturday afternoon.
A prosecutor from the Galveston County District Attorney's Office was called to the scene of the shooting, which is typical during homicide investigations. The shooting is under investigation, police said.
Police said the case may be presented to a Galveston County grand jury, which could determine whether evidence warrants bringing a charge against the person who shot Combs.
