A Galveston man was arrested Wednesday after a woman who rented a room from him was hit in the face with a gun.
Officers were called to the 3700 block of Avenue M in Galveston at 12:25 a.m. by a man saying he wanted two people removed from an apartment he owns.
During the call, dispatchers heard a woman yelling, saying she had been hit by the caller, according to Galveston Police Department spokesman Lt. Josh Schirard.
When officers arrive they found two men and a woman. The group told police that the woman and one of the men were tenants of an upstairs apartment. The other man leased the apartment to them.
The couple was arguing loudly, police said, and the landlord went upstairs to ask the couple to stop, Schirard said.
The landlord left, and when the arguing continued, the landlord returned, armed with a handgun, Schirard said. An argument ensued, and the landlord struck the woman in the head with the gun, police said.
The woman received minor injuries, police said. The landlord was the man who called 911, Schirard said.
Ronald Edwards, 64, of Galveston was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was given $40,000 bond. He was not listed as a prisoner in the Galveston County jail on Thursday afternoon.
