A 22-year-old Texas City woman was killed in a single-car wreck on FM 1764 Monday morning.

The woman was driving west in the 3100 block of the highway about 10:30 a.m. when her car left the road and struck a utility pole, according to the Texas City Police Department.

The woman was conscious when emergency responders arrived, and complained about pain in her body and a loss of vision. She was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

The hospital later notified the police department that the woman died.

A 21-year-old man was also in the vehicle when it crashed. His condition was not released on Monday afternoon.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, according to the police department.

The woman’s identity was not released Monday. Police said they were seeking to contact the woman’s family.
