“• City council approved a motion to allow the city manager to apply for about $5.8 million in grant funding for three projects at Scholes International Airport, 2115 Terminal Drive. The projects, which include a taxiway realignment, apron reconstruction and drainage improvements, could lead to the airport’s commercialization by 2028, Airport Manager Mike Shahan said.”

This is how government is supposed to operate. Four votes decide direction. This no longer happens at the port.

Mayor Brown and the Port Trustees need to step up and make sure it starts happening again during port meetings BEFORE there is no choice but to go the way being herded like sheep by the CEO with all decisions already made but the rubber stamp by the ones that are supposed to set policy.

A good start occurred with a 5-2 vote (Yarbrough and Brown against) authorizing awarding contracts without the appropriated funds approved by city council.

VOTING needs to happen much earlier in the cycle like in the city council vote to approve direction on the airport.
