Mark Howerton, 22, was arrested Wednesday and charged with the murder and aggravated sexual assault of League City resident Cayley Mandadi, according to court documents.

Mandadi, a student at Trinity University in San Antonio, was pronounced dead Oct. 31, 2017, after she fell unconscious while in a car traveling to Houston, according to the San Antonio Express-News

"While we are aware of the arrest of a non-student in Cayley’s murder, we prefer to focus on Cayley’s life at Trinity, rather than the details of her senseless and tragic death," Trinity University spokeswoman Sharon Schweitzer said.

Mandadi was a communications major, a member of the Chi Beta Epsilon sorority and a member of the Trinity Cheer team, Schweitzer said.

Howerton's bond is set at $250,000, according to the Bexar County Magistrate's Office.
