“I’m not going to vote to lock anything down. We’re at the end of this...We are the citizens’ government. We aren’t their mommas. Everyone knows the risk." --Councilman Andy Mann

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Pretty easy to understand why LC has the greatest increase. I could have said this in a 'better' way, but it would have never been allowed to see the light of day.

I think the story here is that cases are going up across the county – we are not at the end. Even the County Health District says cases are going up through March and vaccinations are going to take a while. Hopefully, all the people that refused to wear masks and practice social distancing will not be as stubborn about getting vaccinated.

Yes, we're hardly at the end. We're nine months in with perhaps nine months left to go. And unlike the first months of the pandemic where the worst was limited to a few large cities, the virus is now everywhere in the US. The new variant found in England is here as well - and most likely other variants that we aren't even aware of yet. Americans are dying at the highest rates ever - over 17,000 each week. And there is no evidence that the death rate is going down. With millions of Americans unwilling to get vaccinated we may never reach the level of immunity needed to halt the spread.

We need leaders who will encourage people to do the simple things that we know will work to slow the spread while we wait on the vaccine, and then encourage people to get vaccinated.

They will. It’s the same people.
