A man died on Wednesday night after he fell from a fishing pier into the Gulf of Mexico.

Emergency responders were called to the Galveston Fishing Pier, 9001 Seawall Blvd., at about 9 p.m. Wednesday night, after a report that a man had fallen over a railing in the middle of the pier.

The police department and the Galveston Island Beach Patrol searched the water around the pier and later moved their efforts east with the current.

The man’s body was found on the beach on the 6500 block of Seawall Boulevard.

The incident is still under investigation, but police do not suspect foul play.

The man had not been identified as of Thursday afternoon.
