TEXAS CITY

An off-duty Texas City police officer was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Tuesday after a collision in the city.

Police officers were called to the 400 block of state Highway 146 at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a vehicle collision, the Texas City Police Department reported Tuesday.

Officers found that a Ford pickup truck had been traveling north on the highway when it struck another pickup truck head-on, according to the department.

The second truck was stopped in a turning lane at the time of the crash and no one was injured, according to the department.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.

Adan Hernandez, 39, was arrested by deputies and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Texas City Police Department and county jail records. Bond for the charge was set at $1,000 and Hernandez was not in custody at the Galveston County jail as of Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records.

Hernandez was off duty at the time of the accident, police said.

The Texas City Police Department did not respond to follow-up questions about Hernandez’s job status as of Tuesday. The department’s spokesman and police chief Robert Burby did not return phone calls seeking comment on Tuesday afternoon.
