Friendswood police late Wednesday arrested one man in connection to a Tuesday night shooting at a park basketball court.
Kevin Ivan Castillo, 17, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said. His bond is set at $40,000, police said.
The shooting was prompted by an argument about smoking at Stevenson Park in the 1100 block of South Friendswood Drive, officials said.
Friendswood police responded to a report of gunshots about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the park where they found a 25-year-old League City man with a minor cut to his knee, officials said.
The League City man refused transportation to the hospital, police said.
Witnesses said two men, who had been confronted about smoking cigarettes at the basketball court, returned later with four to six other men, police said.
One of the men then allegedly threw a cigarette in another man’s face and assaulted him while others at the basketball court tried to break up the fight, police said.
Two men then allegedly fired shots into the air, police said.
One of the men allegedly pointed a gun at another man’s head and threatened to kill him, police said.
The group then fled the court back to their car, but fired a shot into the group at the basketball court, hitting the 25-year-old man in the knee, police said.
Friendswood police Thursday were still investigating the incident and were asking anyone with information to contact them at 281-996-3300.
