The first two paragraphs of Mr. Ferguson's feature reports an interesting fact that deserves closer scrutiny. Mr. Tooms, the business' manager, said they received their last order of lights from China in December and "Soon after that shipment of hundreds of lights, the store’s international buyer called to advise Toomes that factories in China were closing down because of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19."

I don't know how soon "soon after that is", but if factories were closing down in China anytime in January, that would indicate that the problem was more widespread there than either the Chinese government or the WHO seemed to be reporting.

Most folks who are following this would assume, I believe, the quarantine effects of factory shutdowns didn't begin in China until about mid-February. If they were closing down in January, the buyer's story would mean they knew they had a real problem in late December.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been behind the curve on this since Day One and seemed to be more concerned with international trade than international disease until quite recently. I hope we don't see the worst of both worlds due to the delay in isolating this virus and controlling its global spread.

If trump hadn't fired the staff designed to combat this pandemic. If he hadn't tried to downplay the seriousness. If he wasn't more concerned about the impact to the stock market. If his only concern wasn't how it would affect the election...

Making stuff up again, Emule?

"FACT CHECK: No, Trump Did Not ‘Fire’ Pandemic Specialist or ‘Defund’ CDC

CLAIM: President Trump “fired” the government’s pandemic specialist, and “defunded” the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

VERDICT: Mostly false. The specialist was not fired; he quit. Some CDC cuts were proposed, but not implemented.

In reality, the pandemic expert — Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer — left the National Security Council (NSC) voluntarily after then-National Security Advisor John Bolton was appointed.

Trump has not 'defunded' the agency, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar has said that the new proposed budget would, in fact, prioritize the fight against coronavirus."

I don't know why I'm posting this. I show Emile the truth but he never accepts it. As the saying goes, "You can lead Emile to truth but you can't make him think."

In the interest of completeness, from politifact:

"It’s hard to pin down whether the National Security Council staffers were "fired" in 2018, but they certainly left abruptly and have not been replaced, though other leaders in the coronavirus fight have been named in recent days."

"There’s no question that the Trump administration sought to cut key CDC budget categories that would be involved in emerging infections like coronavirus. But thanks to Congress, that funding was restored and even increased in bills that were ultimately signed by Trump."

You should have stopped while you were ahead, Carlos. Now you made me google your comment and I see it's from Breitbart. You can tell a Breitbart fake news article because the hyperlinks in them don't go anywhere - they're just there to fool the gullible. But I'm happy that you acknowledge that his position was abolished after his departure, leaving no one to head up global health security.

Carlos Ponce

Not fake but FACT. Get them straight.

Carlos> You are a little slow judging Emile. He has been like this for as long as I can remember. Never finding a fact he agreed with or a truth he didn't dispute.
