A Hitchcock man was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after being accused of brandishing a knife, striking a woman with a glass ashtray and threatening to kill several people, according to the sheriff's office.
Galveston County Sheriff's deputies responding to a disturbance call in a Bacliff trailer park in November 2017 interviewed a woman who said her boyfriend, who was still inside the trailer, had slapped and shoved her to the floor, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The woman told deputies she had called her niece, who came to Bacliff with her boyfriend to help the woman collect her property.
The man inside the trailer was intoxicated and began yelling at the other people and throwing things at them, according to the affidavit.
He threw a glass ashtray and hit one of the women in the eye. The man then slapped one of the other people, then took out a knife and threatened to kill them all, according to the affidavit.
The group left the trailer when the man said he was getting a gun, according to the affidavit.
The Galveston County District Attorney's Office recommended that the man be charged, according to the affidavit.
Jon Berry, 52, of Hitchcock, was arrested in League City on Wednesday, according to Galveston County jail records. He was still in custody at the jail on Thursday morning. His bond was set at a combined $240,000.
