DICKINSON

A League City man is accused of stealing an air conditioner from a house while being accompanied by his 12-year-old son, police said.

Dickinson police were called Saturday to the 2800 block of California Avenue to a report of a theft, according to a probable cause affidavit. Police stopped a red Ford SUV leaving the area with an air conditioner in the back, according to the affidavit.

The driver told officers he had permission to take the air conditioner, according to the affidavit.

Police contacted the owner of the house, who denied that he had given anyone permission to take the unit, according to the affidavit.

A witness told police that she saw the man and a young boy, later identified as the man’s 12-year-old son, pushing the air conditioner down California Avenue on a cart, according to the affidavit.

Andrew Buendia, 34, of League City, was charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000. He was held on $20,000 bond and was still in custody at the Galveston County jail, according to jail records.
